David and Maggie's home on the Nursery |
NOTE: David migrated from the Wandon End, Herfordshire where he was one of nine children of Henry Hill and Martha Graves to Dundee, Illinois to join his uncle William in the nursery business. William founded the Hill Wholesale Nursery Company, (later the D. Hill Nursey Company, the D for David) a noble family trade still maintinted to this day by his great grandson, my cousin, Platt Hill after his son, Art and grandson Jack, Platt's father. In America, David married Margaret Grant who came to America from Scotland as housemaid of his uncle William. In Dundee they had three sons: George William, Art my maternal grandfather, and Vernon; and three daughters: Maud, Mabel, and Florence, who among them have nearly 150 known descendants, many still living (2016). |
